About this page

"We looked at both private and public schools to find the best for our child. We chose Serpell because they understand the needs of international students, and the children and the teachers are very focused on learning."

Serpell has a large Chinese community with 15% of families speaking Cantonese and 4% Mandarin as their first language at home. The school teaches Mandarin as a Language Other Than English for one hour each week. The students at each year level from Prep - 6 who have selected Mandarin as their LOTE are divided for classes into Chinese and non Chinese background. This allows the students with Chinese heritage to study at an advanced level, to celebrate their shared culture and to incorporate traditions into their studies.

The Mandarin teacher at Serpell is Annie Fan. She is also able to assist families with translation and interpreter services.

Mr. Victor Tse, Vice President of the Serpell Primary School Council and a lawyer working in the area of Immigration Law, would be honoured to assist Chinese families with any queries. Please feel welcome to contact Victor at vtse@connexus.net.au
